O my child, the heart is a perilous thing.
The heart crowns all paradoxes of God;
made of muscle and steel and fire, but frail as the sparrow's wing.
Women of Legend are not born-- they are grown
out of spit and dirt and fire and sweat;
they are not a glamorous flock.
They have grease underneath their fingernails
and wrinkles around their eyes.
They have bruises from too-hard pounding upon their breasts.
They have lines from laughter and their feet are callused
from barefooted adventures and sojourns.
Women of Legend are grown out of the spit and dirt and fire and sweat;
their significance is secured in their steadfast response
to unimaginable pain.

Even before reading the poem, I was amazed by the photos, the women represented. Marie Curie, Anne Frank is one of the women I most admire. His poem translated all this, congratulations!
ReplyDeletePs: If you have not read, take a look at the Diary of Anne Frank, it's wonderful.
All the best,
Thais Costa.

ReplyDeleteGreat poem, very beautiful! But what about Harriet Tubman, Sujourner Truth, or Isabel Allende?
ReplyDeleteThank you for this wonderful poem. The day you posted it we found out that my great aunt had passed away. Your poem speaks to me because it reminds me of her and my grandmother. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteDear Bethany Joy Galeotti,
ReplyDeleteI write here for tell you something that is happening so far from you, in Italy.
I think that i'm one of your biggest fan,i love you i love OTH i'm obsessed. But the important fact it is not this: The fact is that The Italian Fan has not the possibility to watch you and all the other of the cast.I know it's not your fault and you can do anything but i want to explain : You in America after that the show came out produce the DVD and on the 10 of April will came out #OTHS9 just after 6 days that #OTHS9 had finish ( on 4th april)and this is fantastic for all the fan of your show. In ITALY WE HAVE JUST 4 DVD : One Tree Hill season : 1 2 3 4 and STOP. The FBI had closed all the link to download the movie/tv shows and so now we are without you. It is not correct because this was a trip for you but also for us 2003----->2012 Nine years.
Ok.. Just remember that you have fans also in Italy that loves you Alway and Forever.
I want also say that ... You inspire people everyday, you might not notice it, but you do!
So never ever stop being you, believing you!
Thanks you because you inspire me everyday
Hey! i just wonder if you can show us your wardrobe and more clothes and shoes? I really love your style!
ReplyDeleteWritten with all the grace and class that you exude in your work. Thank you for showing that strong, smart, and classy women still exist in the film industry!
