Oh, Cheeses!

I love cheese. Seriously, I don't know what I would do if I were lactose intolerant. The quality of my life would be significantly reduced if I weren't able to eat cheese anymore. I love ordering a good cheese plate when I'm out to eat, and I'm always disappointed if it comes to the table with, like, Bleu, Gouda and Goat cheese. Seriously!? Do you KNOW how many good cheese exist and you give me a wedge of Gouda?

In the spirit of Cheeses (pun intended) here's some delicious pictures I found on From Me To You - a favorite blog of mine.

A few hints for your dinner party (or just a great evening in with friends or a lovaaaa)

Serve around 4 different kinds of cheese on a wooden cutting board with a swipe of jam across for dipping. Find some great crackers, sweet crackers compliment bitter cheese, sallty crackers compliment sweet cheese. When you get your wine, bring a list of the cheeses you'll be serving and the flavors in them. The somalier should be able to tell you what wines will best compliment your fromage.

And it's always nice to start with something light... Maybe prosecco, a bowl of cherries and a good salami. Then introduce your cheese with labels secured onto toothpicks. For small additions, add bowls of honey still in the comb, varied chutneys and pestos, and some quince paste. Don't worry about not having a main course-- Never underestimate the ability one has to fill up on cheese and crackers.

Throw on a great movie like French Kiss or Amelie, but mute it and play the film's soundtrack as background music. If you have a porch or patio and the weather is welcoming you can always string up some white lights, and if there's an autumn chill, start a fire-pit!

With this many good cheese in the world, there's not good reason not to share them with friends.

Xo BJG

  9. Can I just have a cheese plate for lunch? Would that we weird?

If I couldn't eat cheese, my crackers would feel naked. And not the sexy kind of naked. The insecure naked where they just want to hide under a blanket.

And then I'd have to try to take my crackers through self-esteem workshops to say that "you're still beautiful and tasty without cheese! You are not abandoned!" And eventually they would reach a point of self actualization and would be proud of their "cracker-ness" but that's a lot of effort for a cracker.

What were we talking about again? Oh right, cheese....

    mmmm...

  19. How do you feel about Brie cheese...? ;)

  20. LOL! I love cheese too! Can do without meat, but never cheese. Have you ever tried any Greek cheeses? Obviously feta, but there is also Kasserie, Kefalogravera and Manouri(which is actually Cyprian). All very good! Growing up in my family, we always had cheese at our dinner table everynight of the week. Each meal always ended with a big chunk of crusty bread and a hunk of cheese, so good!!!

Love you and love your blog!

  21. Grrr this is the third time that I try to comment it, bref!

I undersant you so much! the french girl that I am has been raised in cheese! Yes! My father gave me my first slice of Camembert when I was 6 months old and I loved it since this moment.

If I may suggest some cheese it will be the Roquefort, who looks to Bleu but it's so much tastier, goat cheese, sheep's cheese and especially Etorki( which come from the south west of France and generally eat with a black cherry jam, WONDERFUL!) and the Rocamadour. Of course, with one with a wonderful french bread...bien sur! Oh I almost forgot the Comté from jura, with a glass of "Bourgogne Aligoté" (white wine)

Others suggestions, the Raclette and the Fondue Savoyarde, which are cheese recipe... DELICIEUX

And not French but Italian, and I'm sure that you'll know it? Parmegianno reggiano!

I really think that I have to stop myself right now or I will write you a novel!

I hope you'll have the occasion to taste some of them during your stay in France in February!

    xO

I'm french. Cheese is a part of our culture. Most of us love having cheese at the end of their meal or during the day.Really good thing.

  28. Hmm...I was diagnosed with lactose intolerance in February this year. Figures! Prior to that I could easily devour a Brie in one sitting. Though I can still savor a vintage slice without any repercussions and anything else is at my own risk. I miss eating as much or as little as I please!
